Improving the energy efficiency of historic buildings is a complicated task: There are many restrictions on what can be done, getting permissions takes a long time and you need a high level of expertise for design and implementation.
For all demonstrators, we will therefore have two monitoring periods, lasting at least 12 months each. During the first monitoring period, we will do a baseline characterization, studying the buildings and carrying out surveys to figure out what kind of sensors, hardware and software should be used. During the second monitoring period, after the interventions, we will then assess the impact that the SMARTeeSTORY system had on the overall performance of the three buildings.
Overall, we are looking at how the SMARTeeSTORY system can help these historic buildings improve their energy usage and become overall smarter (called the Smart Readiness Indicator) while also ensuring a comfortable and healthy indoor environment, technological developments and economic efficiency.
